Barış Akın

Software Solutions Architect · Co-Founder & Creator · FinTech & Distributed Systems

A software architect with more than 25 years of experience designing, building and scaling secure, high-performance systems. I work across .NET, Go and Rust microservices for FinTech, AI and enterprise platforms, and I build developer tools of my own: the OxiDB database, and the Rill and Cobra programming languages.

Areas of expertise

A quarter century of hands-on work across the whole range of software, from embedded systems to cloud-native platforms.

.NET & backend

Expert-level C#, .NET Core and ASP.NET MVC. Robust, high-performance backend systems and APIs for enterprise and FinTech platforms.

Microservices architecture

Scalable distributed systems with SignalR, WebSockets, Redis, RabbitMQ and Docker. Real-time, high-availability architectures at scale.

FinTech & trading

Cryptocurrency infrastructure, live stream data processing, real-time transaction systems and enterprise-grade security.

Frontend & mobile

Angular, AngularJS and Angular SSR/ISR for SEO-friendly rendering; cross-platform mobile apps with Flutter.

Database engineering

PostgreSQL, MongoDB, MS SQL Server and Oracle. Secure, distributed data storage for complex enterprise systems.

Security & cryptography

RSA-based encryption, Keycloak authentication, role-based access control and enterprise security patterns for sensitive data.

What I am building now

  • Rill: a functional language compiled to native code through LLVM, with no garbage collector and Go-style concurrency. This blog's server is written in it.
  • OxiDB (2026 –): a fast, embeddable database in Rust: a single binary, zero configuration, a crash-safe WAL. JSON queries, an S3-compatible API, a Redis-compatible in-memory store, MQTT messaging, GELF log ingestion, GPU-accelerated vector search, hash sharding, Raft replication and AES-256 encryption at rest; clients for Python, Go, Julia, .NET, Swift/iOS, JS/TS and C.
  • Cobra (2026 –): a scripting language written in Go, with a tree-walking interpreter and a bytecode VM (~4× faster), ahead-of-time compilation to native executables that outrun PyPy's JIT on numeric work, true no-GIL parallelism, a debugger, an LSP server and a formatter.
  • zap: a fine-grained reactive UI library with no virtual DOM and no compiler; the interface of this site.
  • Kartex (2023 –, co-founder): a mobile and enterprise platform for sharing encrypted, RSA-based personal and business cards. .NET Core and Go on the back end, Angular, Flutter, Keycloak, Docker, PostgreSQL and MongoDB.
  • Baltavista (2023 –): an AI-driven multilingual news platform that gathers global news, translates it into Turkish and writes short summaries. Go, RabbitMQ, MongoDB, Angular SSR/ISR, Docker and NLP.

How I work

Good software joins hands-on technical skill with product vision and leadership. After decades of building systems that serve thousands of people, I have learned that the best architectures are built for security, scale and portability from the first day.

  • Security first: encryption, authentication and enterprise-grade protection are part of the design, not an afterthought.
  • Built to scale: containerised, distributed, cloud-ready systems that grow from prototype to production without a rewrite.
  • Ship and iterate: from idea to production with Docker, CI/CD and modern tooling. Value comes from shipping, not from planning.

How this site works

This blog is built with my own tools, all of them at once:
