A valley at dusk you walk in the browser: forest, lake, crystals, weapons, voice chat and bots. The terrain, physics and game logic are written in Rill; the same file compiles to WebAssembly for the browser and to a native program for the server, and WebGPU draws the picture.

Hi, I'm Barış Akın.
I write about compilers, databases, distributed systems and user interfaces. This is where I share what I learn while building things from scratch.

Non-isolated ESP32-C3 boards that fit in a Ø60 wall box: a relay socket module that measures power with a BL0937, a two-channel TRIAC light switch, and a version of the switch without neutral that powers itself through the lamps. They connect to Home Assistant through ESPHome and have thermal lockouts. The KiCad projects, JLCPCB-ready Gerber/BOM/CPL and ESPHome YAMLs are free to download.
A two-stage tube preamp built with MOSFETs, an EL34 power amp and a 4x12 cab sim, followed by eight DSP effects on an STM32G473 and an ES8388. A 6-layer SMD board ready for JLCPCB; the KiCad project, Gerber/BOM/CPL and firmware source are free to download.
A JCM800 tone stack computed from the circuit, NAM inference that matches NeuralAmpModelerCore sample for sample, zero-latency cabinet convolution and a 12-band noise suppressor that learns: what is inside BarisAMP, and how it ships as VST3, CLAP and AU.
A tube-preamp character from four BS170s, a 17 V rail doubled from 9 V, trimpot-free bias, a Marshall tone stack and all through-hole parts: the circuit, the board and the road to Rev 2.2 of BEY-HAN Overdrive.
The document engine at the core of OxiDB: MongoDB-style queries and aggregation, indexes and the planner, disk-first storage, the WAL, OCC transactions and read snapshots, with every example run against a real server.
OxiDB's search layer: BM25 ranking, Snowball stemming in 18 languages with Turkish examples, highlighted snippets, searching inside PDF/DOCX/XLSX files, an mmap'd inverted index, k-NN with HNSW and measured recall.
How I built geospatial queries and graph stages into OxiDB's document engine, shown with real places in Istanbul and a small flight network: a geohash index that is generous but never wrong, BFS, and lazy Dijkstra.
